The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to Portugal and the Circuito Estoril for the 2022 Estoril Round from the 20th to the 22nd May, and what better way to get ready for the next chapter in an incredible 2022 season than to go all the way back to 1993 and the sensational three-way battle that took place at the Portuguese venue in Race 1.
Two manufacturers were in the mix during the 22-lap race as Fabrizio Pirovano, on his Yamaha battled with Piergiorgio Bontempi and Aaron Slight with both riders on Kawasaki machinery. The trio were around 18 seconds clear of fourth place and, with the podium riders in place, only the order was left to be decided. Pirovano, Bontempi and Slight battled it out across the race as they went in search of glory with the trio separated by just 0.863s across the line, with Pirovano holding on to take his last win in WorldSBK.
